My classroom is at its essence a community.: This means that each student not only takes responsibility for himself or herself, but also for the well being of their fellow students. Students will learn collaboratively and through dialogue and explanations come to a deeper mastery of the subject matter. I expect the best from my students, academically and socially. This will be achieved through explicit objectives and expectations as well as by giving students a sense of ownership over the classroom and their education. My teaching style will be authoritative, meaning that I expect high effort and results while still treating them warmly, with care and compassion. When students enter my classroom I want them to feel safe and cared for as well as excited to learn.
